Problem with processor fan and bios - help!

Hi all,

I'm having some issues with what I think is my processor fan. My PC has been making a loudish noise for a couple of weeks and as far as I can identify, it's the processor fan.

I tried accessing my bios to check/change the fan speed, but when I pressed the key to enter bios (delete for my motherboard) I just got a black screen (I've seen some stuff about wireless keyboards, which is what I am using, not working until windows has booted, but it seems that the computer is recognising it but just going to a black screen for some reason).

After sitting on this black screen a while, I turn the power off, my computer restarts and then the noise is gone. When I turn my PC on the next time, the noise is back and the process repeats.

Any ideas on what is causing the problem? Do I need a new processor fan? Also any ideas on why I can't get into my bios?

Thanks!

Paul.

Have you tried opening the PC and sucking out the dust and scraping the dirt off the fan blades.

Ladies make up kits have just the tools to do this sort of thing.
