Power Button Tip

  ened 06:46 07 Dec 07

If, like me you have had some problems with the hibernation mode you can change the use of the Power Button to automatically Shut Down the pc.

Control Panel-Power Options -Power Plan you are using.
Change Power Settings - Advanced Power Settings.

Click on the + next to Power Buttons and Lids

Click on the + next to Start Menu Power Button

Click on the setting and change it to Shutdown.

Click Apply etc.

You will notice the Power Button has change to Red and will now Safely Shut Down the machine.

I hope somebody finds this useful.

Vista will shut down normally if you simply turn off hibernation. Also save yourself up to a gigabyte of hard drive space, viz. In a Run window type powercfg -h off (note the 3 spaces) and press Enter. To turn it back on type powercfg -h on and press Enter.
