partition question

Can I partition a h/drive (with partition magic) which already has an o/s plus various programs installed and then install a different o/s on the (new) partitioned part?
I’ve just acquired a desktop with XP Pro - which won’t play some of my favourite programs. Most annoying as XP Home does!

I would suggest that it would be better to copy the data that you would like to keep, then wipe the drive, install the o/s and add the data back.

Not possible - I don't have software for Home, only Pro.

I would have thought that Pro would handle the same as Home

Yes. Use the boot manager.

Then how are you going to install XP home on the new partition without the disks?

PS This is a Vista forum not an XP one.
