When you drag the window its is only when the your mouse pointer touches the edges of the screen it opens to a larger size.

thanks BRYNIT, is there a way to stop this happening?

Just a thought when you move the window to one side are you moving the mouse pointer up to touching the top of the screen as this will usually open the window in full screen. If you move the mouse pointer to the side it will open to half screen.
