Office 2003 to Office 2007

I have a PC running Vista Home Premium (beautifully!) and also have Office Pro 2003 installed.

I am getting Office 2007 (Full version) shortly and have read on other posts that you can use it to upgrade an existing installation of 2003.

My query is can I install 2007 without it upgrading or removing 2003 and run them side by side for a while?

Not sure about upgrade, but there are problems with 2003 reading 2007 word exel etc. you may have to download a patch from microsoft

Thanks for your response.

I am aware of the different file systems. 2007 will read the older file systems of 2003 but not vice versa unless you save the 2007 files in the older format.

My main concern is that I don't want to 'destroy' 2003 when I install 2007 and wonder if anybody has done it yet?

You can run them side by side and 2007 opens earlier file versions. However You will only be able to run 1 version of Outlook. You always choose to save your work as the older file version eg .doc instead of .docx.

While I was typing my initial response you posted the link. Thanks for that I'll have a read but I don't actually intend to keep 2003 for very long.

Thanks for the response. I don't actually use Outlook so from what you say there is no problem running them side by side.

No problem - I ran them side by side on a laptop for a while and have now removed 2003 (-to force myself to get used to 2007!).

Loaded 2007 today alongside 2003. No problems -thanks for your advice.
