No warm boot but cold boot OK

My PC will cold boot, but hangs on the initial Win7 screen during a warm boot. Could anyone tell me where to look to find the cause? Is there a log file for this type of error. I assume a program or driver is hanging, but what would load during a warm boot that would not also load during a cold boot?

Sorry, maybe I am using the wrong terms. By "warm" and "cold" I mean either a re-boot (warm), following an program upgrade for example, versus a power off boot (cold).

I don't think the actual temperature is a factor.

Thanks Tony

this would be normal as windows is updating files on the restart.

Fruit Bat

No, it hangs even if I do a manual restart from the desktop, and it hangs indefinitely. With a OS upgrade, there is always a message indicating what is happening.

Thanks Tony
