New PC - Do I Install Progs Before or After Vista

I've got a new PC with Vista due to be delivered any day now.

My question is, Do I put all my programs from my old PC onto the new PC BEFORE I install Vista onto it or do I install Vista and THEN install all my programs.

The reason I ask is that some of my programs (around 126 of them) are fairly old and will obvioulsy work OK with XP which came pre-installed on the new PC but, if I install Vista and then attempt the installation of the programs, it may not let me do so for incompatability reasons.

Or will it make no difference?

Any advice would put my mind at rest, thanks.

Either way your programs might not run.

Do you know what might cause them not to run, what should I be aware of?

If it's going to take 7 weeks for delivery (as posted elsewhere on this forum) I'll put the programs on first, no questions.
