Lost creation dates on file transfer

  Cluelessone 15:59 03 Mar 14

Ladies and gentlemen your assistance please:

Just shipped in all my old files/docs/pics from XP to my new Win 8.1 PC via an external drive.

Everything now’s shows as being modified on the move date. All the creation date and genuine modification dates have been lost. Any way to get them back? Failing that can I start again and re-import with a way of saving those original dates dates?

Having read through a couple of Google answers on this problem it seems that the basic Windows commands for copying do not allow you to preserve the dates of file creation etc. But there is a programme called Richcopy Click Here that allows you to do so. I've not used it but since you still have the original files with their original dates it should be a simple matter to copy them with Richcopy and then move them to your new machine. I would be interested to hear how you get on.
