Laptop only shuts down

For about 2 months now, I've been unable to put my laptop to sleep. Or hibernate, anything. I've tried resetting power settings but unsuccessfully. How can I restore it? Running Win 8 on Acer Aspire and i5 Intel.

Should read:

Make a 'Custom Refresh Image' then do a 'W8 Refresh'

Sounds counter intuitive to make an Image of a broken system. But it should preserve Programs and apps as well as Files and Folders, but repair Windows.

If it doesen't, delete custom Refresh Image and make another Refresh.

Or reintall W8

Syntax error! sfc/ scannow should read sfc /scannow
