How do I show my encrypted photos and files?

So I did something really stupid and believe me when I say I regret it a lot. I thought I would be smart and encrypt certain things which would require a password to get access too, but after that they disappear; I don't know how to get them back or where to get them from, I mean they are really important pictures as they hold precious memories and when they disappeared I was literally in tears. Does anyone know what to do? How to help?

PS. I have Windows 7 and an Asus Laptop.

What did you do to encrypt them and have you written down any passwords you may have used?

well I think I clicked on properties and then encrypted and hid files something like that and yh I do remember some passwords. After the encrypt they vanished into thin air!!

Encryption is available for Pro, Ultimate editions etc. It's greyed out on lesser editions.

File or Folder Properties/General Tab/Advanced/Encrypt contents to secure data

What I hope you have done is set the Files as Hidden as well as encrypted.

(It's another checkbox on the Properties dialog and you may have ticked it)

To show Hidden files and folders

I have tried to see the problem in my Virtual W7 Professional, and I can't. My encrypted example files and folders do not vanish.

I did backup my Encryption Certificate at the time of encrypting though.

If showing Hidden files does not solve your problem, I can't help you.

But you could make sure you have backed up your certificate by the wizard.

Start/Search Manage File Encryption Certificates

Messing with encryption is dangerous anyway.

If you lose your key or something goes wrong it may be insurmountable

Always practice on copies of files and folders first.

And why don't you have a backup of your important data?

I hope it works out.
