Getting rid of XP & Vista dual boot option screen

I had a dual boot arrangement on my laptop. XP and Vista were on C:\ and D:\ respectively. I had a problem and decided to take Kate B's advice and revert back to XP. To this end I have reformatted the partition that Vista was on and Vista has been removed...mostly.
When I turn on my laptop I still get the dual boot option, the one that asks if you want Vista or an earlier version of Windows. I have cleaned the registry using Abexo Registry Cleaner and used CCleaner, but the dual boot option persists
How can I get back to the normal XP boot up?

and select the Uninstall the Vista boot loader option. This will remove the boot manager and boot into your primary operating system which is only xp in this case since you don't have Vista anymore.
