I have lost the 'Favorites column' in my Vista internet explorer.

Can anyone help me to install a new one or find the old one?

You mean, on the left? Click the star under the back/forward buttons, or press Ctrl-Shift-I. If there are no `favorites` shown, go to the start orb, type

favorites

press return. It should open the folder in Windows Explorer.

Thank you brundle for your prompt reply.

I have used your 'search' solution.
However, when I press the left star the 'favorites' column appears but it is empty and it doesn't accept any entries, when I try to 'add to favorites'.
The 'feed and history' sections are working but not the 'favorites' one.

Here's a suggestion; click here

The path is wrong in that tip. Open a command prompt, which will already be pointing to your user profile folder,

c:\Users\joebloggs> for example

The command will be

ATTRIB -S Favorites /S /D

Doesn't have any effect on my system. Repair IE7; click here

Now my problem is ignorance!!!

Does cmd mean 'command prompt' and if so how do I get there?
Do I leave the command as it stands but only change the 'user name' to my name?

Sorry to be dim!

Thank you brundle for your help.

I have now been able to find the file folder called 'favourites'. How do I get this back into the internet explorer?

You found command prompt? Find it by typing cmd at the empty box next to the Start orb.

Favorites should already be there, if there are no entries in the that folder there would be none in IE. You might want to try a System Restore. click here

I have restored the system and as a result the items in the favourites column have appeared again in the File folder.
What must I do to transfer the items into IE?

As I said, the contents of the folder are directly linked to IE's favorites menu. if they dont appear in IE itself then something within the system is wrong.
