External HDD-how to save files under VISTA?

  Probabilitydrive 14:43 19 Jun 07

I connected my external Western Digital HDD from a XP-Pro system to my new VISTA-system.

I can open its files under Vista BUT I cant change anything in a (word)document. VISTA claims its 'read only'a nd suggests to untick the box.

However, checking under files properties the 'read only' box is already unticked!

Could you confirm whether all this is due to:

the HDD (under XP) letter was 'F' and under Vista its 'D'. Changing it back to 'F' would allow me to alter/manipulate/save the files again to the external HDD??

My two other optical drives (CD/DVD) have also changed letters. Anything I should be aware of if assigning them the same letters as in my XP-system?
