Endless starting and shutting down

I used registry mechanic to tidy up the reg in vista HP and it needed a restart. upon restarting it said configouring 1 of 3 updates do not switch off - all pretty regular with windows update but as it got to number 3 it shut down and went into a loop of restarting and shutting down - even in safe mode. I have fixed it by invoking system restore from the safe mode menu and all is well but I wonder if anyone knows why it went like that? Was it registry mechanic or windows update?

I doubt a windows update could cause this. I think that reg mechanic had removed or changed a peice of reg that was used by windows update which invoked this looping.

Hi Mazuk, After restoring my system to a few days before the incident I have discontinued using Registry Mechanic and had no further probs. A lot of people say that these reg cleaners can cause more harm than good.
