duel core install problem

I have Vista academic upgrade. I had XP & Vista on duel boot (Some software would not run correct on Vista)No Problems. I then installed a Athlon X2 duel core 4400+. The vista check said no problems. I booted XP and it found the new CPU and reconised it. Booted into vista BSOD
irql problem. Tried XP upgrade and it worked but when try clean install to another partition it will not install BSOD!
Does anyone know the problem & how to correct. Replace old CPU and everything works OK. Must be Vista does not reconise the new chip correctly??

Thanks in Advance Zebadee
