Driver Updates .best method for Windows 7

I am a bit baffled by being offered scans to check for out of date drivers.
I tend not to trust these ads as I am sure they exaggerate the problems, which do not seem to interfere with my day to day operations. Is there a reliable updating system for drivers?

SlimDrivers seems to be pretty reliable but as MechKB 2 says they all sometimes make an error. Most do allow you to backup the original ones first.

Thanks for your views, which roughly reflect my own. I think it better to avoid them in most cases. Cheers, Telkell
