I have just installed Windows 8.1 on a new build. Everything went very smoothly and the PC is running.

Do I need to do anything about the drivers. I have CDs from the motherboard (Gigabyte Z87-HD3 Motherboard) and graphics card (AMD Radeon R7 260X 2048MB ) but these were not asked for during the Windows installation .

If it's working fine and no issues in device manager I would be inclined to leave it be. If you will need any drivers, I would go to the site to select them rather than use the (usually) outdated ones on the CD.

If this is your MoBo then see here. Check if the right one before attempting driver download.

rdave13 is right about the motherboard drivers but, I would be inclined to update the graphics card drivers, especially if you intend to use the PC for gaming. AMD driver Download here.

I spoke too soon about my PC running well, it has both crashed and locked up, so I am trying to update the drivers. I have found the latest drivers on the gigabyte site, but where are they under system devices on my PC? Yes On the gigabyte website they list drivers for audio chipset, LAN and sat Raid/A HCI, is it best to update them all.

It looks as the last updated drivers are 2013, click here, if you've just bought the MoBo try the CD driver disc. You can update any driver, if needed, from the site later on.

On that link click on "show me all" to the right of the "choose your OS" field.

What does device manager show? On desktop right click the Start icon bottom left corner.

The motherboard was bought in the last two weeks. I've used the MoBo CD to update.

Gigabyte website chipset Intel management engine interface driver is version 9.5.15.1730 dated 2013/10/18

My driver as listed in device manager is also version 9.5.15.1730 dated05/09/2013 so guess that's okay.

On the gigabyte website under chipset there is also “Intel INF installation” version9.4.0.1027 dated 2013/10/18 I can't see anything like this in device manager.

In device manager / system devices these are the entries (other than the management engine interface ) that mention Intel. Intel (R) fourth gen core processor DRAM controller – 0C00 Intel (R) 8 series/C220 series PCI express route support #1 – 8C10 Intel (R) 8 series/C220 series PCI express route support #3 -8C14 Intel (R) 8 series/C220 series SMBus controller – 8C22 Intel (R) Xeon (R) processor E3-1200 V3/fourth gen core processor PCI express x 16 controller -0C01 Intel (R) Z 87 LPC controller – 8C44 All these six have the same driver version 9.4.0.1023 dated 25/07/2013

Intel (R) 82801 PCI bridge – 244E Intel (R) 82802 firmware Hub device both these to have the same driver version 6.3.9600.16384 dated 21/06/2006

I would install it. It will check for any future updates and monitor the chipset drivers.

When your PC locked up what had you installed just previously, or any hardware additions?
