crashing at shutdown

I have just upgraded to vista and have had alot of trouble with driver for my graphics card and the display resolution. (ati sapphire x1650 pro). have managed to get screen resolution correct as i uninstalled the driver and let vista install drivers for me, but now when i try and shutdown or hibernaye etc, the pc crashes with reference to ATI2dvag.dll that i can't find on my computer. Have tried updating the ati software to latest version, but vista wouldn't load, just had a blank screen with my monitor saying unsupported format. Can anybody help please? much appreciated.
