compatibility of Windows XP and Windows 8

I bought some personal development programmes when using my old laptop with Windows XP. I transferred them to my new Windows 8 laptop but I find I have difficulty opening them as they are in a format where they have been individualised into logo and picture components which form part of the programmes as whole! How can I make them compatible with Windows 8, if at all, and see the original programmes?

How did you 'transfer' them to your W8 laptop?

You can't just copy them over. You have to install them properly so the W8 registry is configured to run them.

and when you install them, select compatibility mode for XP.
