Can't play DVDs in Windows 7

  chrismuir 19:00 05 Jan 15

New PC with Win 7 Home Premium, has a 24x SATA DVD+/-RW Drive which has been working fine when installing software & games. Tried to watch a DVD last night, and whilst Windows Media Player opened, nothing displayed. Tried installing VLC and got the same result with the screen displaying *dvd:///D:* and the timer counting up but again nothing displaying.

The DVD drive is shown as a TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-224DB SCSI Cdrom device in Device Manager.

Any ideas before I contact the manufacturer?

Forgot to add, have a USB DVD drive so tried that as well and got the same result so am thinking it is software on the player(s) rather than hardware....
