"Black Widow" Joystick/Vista?

This controller works perfectly with "Flight Sim X" and CFS3 and also passes Vista's game controller test screen. Except that the 'Vibration' feature doesn't function on any of these. Before I send it back as faulty I wondered if anyone could comment on this. I have removed and replaced the drivers several times, including the one on Speedlink's web site which appears to be older than the one supplied. The only thing I noticed was that the first time I put the driver in the description of the stick on the test page included the word Vibration (not that it worked then!) subsequently it hasn't. Another thing I don't understand is that putting the driver in (apparently) alters the test page but when I look for it in device manager all the drivers I look at seem to be identified as Microsoft no mention the new one which appears to be identifiable as "Megastore" or some such. Any comments welcome.

Since writing the above I have tried this joystick on my laptop also running Vista and it behaves impeccably.
If I look in device manager on my PC (which is where the problem lies) under Human Interface Devices, I have "HID-compliant game controller" whose properties inform me that "no driver files are required or have been loaded for this device." In spite of listing a Microsoft driver in the appropriate panel in properties.
In "Sound, video and game controllers" there is no mention of a game controller.
Enlightenment still sought please!
