Using free Avast unsure about firewall possibly windows defender, not able to update satnav as "device not connected" when it clearly is and it shows on satnav that it is connected, so USB lead is ok. How do I allow my laptop to connect to TomTom site? TIA RedMist

Is your Device fully charged?
Have you tried starting TomTom Home on your Laptop first then connecting your Device? Have you tried connecting your Device to your Laptop then starting TomTom Home?

Have you downloaded the right programme for your sat nav. Home or my drive. See link below If so try right clicking on TomTom in the star menu then go to settings and click on empty cache, if that is full of any old downloads you won't be able to download.
