Why doesn't MS-WMP10 include the MPEG-2 Codec

I recently upgraded from XP Home to Pro. Now I can no longer play DVDs through WMP10. My machine was originally bundled with other DVD player software but I am happy just to use WMP10.

Does anyone know where I can find just the mpeg-2 codec for free as I am really reluctant to buy another media player just to get the codec and when WMP10 is okay to do the job.

Why does MS not include it with WMP. Surely this is false advertising when it claims to play DVDs

Cheers

If you go onto the Microsoft download site and put in search Media Player, a number of downloads are available. One of these may solve your problem.

Spud - I have had a look at the MS website and does say that it doesn't supply the mpeg-2 codec.

However BH34's link looks promising.
