Why are some people so obnoxious???

Has anyone else noticed that some peoples responses to threads are so obnoxious? If someone accidentally enters a comment in the wrong thread or starts a thread that already exists somewhere, then you can nearly always guarantee someone responding something like "What is the point in that?" or "Why are you doing that" or something just as condescending. Maybe these things are "accidents" or they are new to this kind of thing and it wasn't done on purpose.
If you are going to respond then think about how it comes across first. It's usually because they are hiding behind a nickname or a computer so they feel as if they can be obnoxious without consequence!
Speak to people like you would be expected to be spoken to....I call it common courtesy.
Rant over.

I agree, people attack over the slightest thing. Fortunately this forum isn't too bad for that sort of thing, as the FE keeps a fairly tight rein on proceedings. But some forums are unusable because of it.
I often play an online game (Pax Galaxia) and it has a comments system. Some of the comments are unbelievable. I have learnt not to get involved and just ignore them, but they can be disturbing.
There is a lot of very angry people on the internet.

Are you seriously starting a thread about this? Have u nothing better to do?.....

Only messing, I agree with you to a certain point. But people do post threads which are duplicates of ones in the recent past. Its not hard to do a quick search before you post.

Also some people are just ignorant by nature, makes me chuckle.

I find the search facility somewhat limited.

Many times I have put a word or phrase in, and the results don`t show what I know was in a previous thread. Understandably, people then post a new question. However, this is no reason for making critical comments.

LMAO Donki!!!
Well I am glad it isn't just me. Most people are cool, friendly and helpful but I get the feeling sometimes that others are very quick to knock someone down when they ask a simple question or post a simple statement!!

I think sometimes people get fed up with other peoples laziness. How many times do see a question like " What is the best firewall or anti-virus programme" or something very similar, when a simple search through postings may provide the answer many times over.

The same thing applies to people asking questions, then expect an instant answer. They then go away, never to say thank you or one of the answers resolved the issue.

People being or becoming obnoxious can be caused through many things ;o)

One could just as easily ask why some people are such prudes. Everyone's different, and I would stop using this forum if everyone started being polite to each other all the time - it's boring.

I see what you are saying but I guess what bothers me most is that some people genuinely don't know some things and should be treated as if they are newbies or whatever. We've all been there and asked a question that, to someone else, is a no-brainer. But as they say on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire "It's only easy if you know the answer"!!!
And yes I agree, laziness is a factor, but the repsonse to someone like that can be "Why don't you try the search function" instead of "Why are you posting this? Why not look....idiot" etc like some people do.
Just manners I say!! And yes people should say thank you when you solve an issue for them, and again that's manners!
Earthsea I know it would be boring if everyone was all nicey nicey but I think some people just get above themselves sometimes and some answers are like talking down to people. I love having banter and a disagreement now and then, but if someone is asking for help then lets help them and inform them in a more respectful manner if they do something wrong!!

"I think sometimes people get fed up with other peoples laziness. How many times do see a question like " What is the best firewall or anti-virus programme" or something very similar, when a simple search through postings may provide the answer many times over."

i did ponder on this and i thought about stickies which stay on top of all posts with frequently asked questions, got a virus?,etc,etc..i know there is a search function but most people want to post and communicate with someone(socialising mabey) kind regards akanic

"i know there is a search function but most people want to post and communicate with someone".
Yes I agree and when you are communicating with people you want them to be friendly and helpful!
People will stay longer, post more and generally make the forums a cooler place, if people had a bit more respect for others.

You said "starts a thread that already exists somewhere, then you can nearly always guarantee someone responding something like "What is the point in that?" or "Why are you doing that" or something just as condescending"

Now can I ask whats so condescending or rude about that?

If you are trying to help someone and they end up starting 2 or more threads on the same subject then you end up wasting a lot of your time suggesting things that have been suggested already, as well as this you miss half the story.

Now I appreciate that when you are new to the forum you don't perhaps know what to do so I usually say that starting more than one thread on the same subject confuses everyone as they have no idea what has already been done so its best to stick to one thread or something like that.

If asking people to do that is rude or condescending then the forum might as well be shut down as almost anything else you could say would also be offensive.

Regarding something being so simple that a four year old could find it, if a posting is like that I just ignore it, same as if I think the person is just being lazy. I don't post nasty comments to them but I'm not going to do their work for them as I'd rather spend my time helping someone ,who in my opinion at least, warrants help.
Some things are differcult to find but some are so simple that if you put a few words into a search engine in any order whatsoever the answer immediatly pops up. If the question asked is one of these simple questions I just ignore it.
