My cynicism muscle is stretched to it's limit already. Anyone would think there's an election looming!

Who would believe any of them? That's the problem IMHO.

At least Cameron's statement makes sense!

To avoid any confusion, don't believe a word from anyone!

The problem is that the UK 's debt as a % of GDP is around 90% compared with a world average of about 64% (Greece at over 160 ). No government can run away from the fact that there is no "spare" money to give away. A combination of increased taxes and lower spending is needed , and this is a very unpopular message that all parties try to avoid. (SNP in particular!)

A194 "At least Cameron's statement makes sense!"

Strange, then, that it takes him until a few weeks before the election to suddenly come out with it !!! He's been in office 5 years, after all.

Not a bit strange - he's obviously making noises with campaigning in mind.

Have you read what he is quoted as saying?

Seems fair enough, based on cumulative effect of recent economic figures and oil price falls. It's not a vacuous promise to so something which we will no doubt here from all parties - it's what they do.
