When is a record not a record?

Jennifer Figge, an American aged 56, hit the headlines over the weekend after completing an endurance swim from the west coast of Africa to the Caribbean. She was hailed as the first women to swim the Atlantic.

It transpires that due to ocean hazards and poor weather, around 250 miles of the 2,100-mile journey was actually swum, the remaining 1,850 miles was spent aboard a catamaran!

Swimming 250 miles in the ocean is an impressive feat for a 56 year old women, but claiming to have swum the Atlantic seems to be stretching a point to far to me.

Of course it's a record.

Oh and before anybody comes back, I do know about the place in the islands where you can step across!
