I wonder if anyone has kept their first PC Advisor mag, the first one they have bought. If so how far does it date back to?

I still have my first issue of PC Advisor Mag and it dates back to May 2001 - Issue 68. It was priced £2.99 for a CD Edition.

On the front cover of the magazine is a Tiny 900 Starter computer....Do you remember them? The competition between them and Time? the pre-broadband days, where we had to wait til 2005 for broadband; the runner up PC in PC Advisor's Power PCs chart was an Systemax A1300RV Lifestyle 0590 with a processor speed of 1.3GHz and a memory of 256MB - the top PC had only 128MB....those were the days.

I used to purchase it at 99p. With floppies I think.

Long since thrown.

This forum had been going for six months.

How time flies.

I can't remember mine but it was a few years ago - the cover CD was red if that helps...

That probably narrows it down to every issue ever published.

Actually, I remember now it was a silver disc from December 1998 I just found it out - because I bought my first Win 98 machine in November 98 and it boasted a 333 Mhz Celeron CPU, 6 GB hard disk and about 64 MB of RAM. Got it from Evesham and it was called "Scorcher" so I've got a few mags from that time as I needed some cover discs with software to run on it - the very first mag I got with a disc was Dec 98 of PC Format. Anyway, click here for a pic of the PCA disc I just scanned in.

Oh and I couldn't get the menu to run in XP so here's a pic of the disc's contents, click here - just in case it brings back any memories. :-P

I've just followed the link to the screenshot. After studying it for a short while, I've just tried opening up one of the bitmap images.

(pillock!)

Just a thought, but did you try getting the menu to run in compatability mode?

WTM, yup set it to run in compatibility mode, but it runs and doesn't do anything else - the process is running in Task Manager just no menu.
