What qualifications for a doctors receptionist?

What qualifications for a doctors receptionist? In the past it was easy, all that was required was that you were blatantly rude. Now it seems (probably EU directive) that you have to be grossly obese and grotesquely ugly also.

bumpkin ... you seem to have a chip on your shoulder. Do you feel better now - having vented your spleen?

I must be lucky, our receptionists are young and gorgeous!

... and also, you can't judge a book by it's cover ... same maxim applies to doctors' receptionists, I reckon ;o]

* I must be lucky, our receptionists are young and gorgeous!*

Well they won't last long unless their specialty is rudeness.

Quite right Forty Shades of Grey for example does not sound rude.

bumpkin - Are you by any chance confusing your doctor's surgery with your vet's? What have they done to upset you?

Our receptionists at both are pleasant and mainly slim. They have to be polite nowadays.

The doctor's practice I frequent, seems to now have a change of staff on occasions, and the replacements all seem fair minded and reasonably fit and of 'average' build.

The only problem at times is how each individual works, completely different to each other when requesting an appointment or when attempting to leave a message, that wants passing on to the GP.

In my experience, I'm always treated with the same courtesy/disdain that I start the interaction with.

Bad hair day perhaps? Yours that is...

We have 4 different receptionists and 3 of them are really nice to talk to, you can chat to them have a joke and they will try to go out of their way to help.

The 4th one is from hell, her idea of help is to not talk to you, speak to her about an appointment to see the doctor and she will tell you that you aren't ill enough to see one.

I phoned for an appointment for my wife who suffers from bad Asthma and COPD and she tried to give me an appointment for 2 weeks in the future, it wasn't till I asked for her name so I could tell the hospital who was to blame for calling an ambulance she "found " a spare slot in the doctors list.

I will say she is not obese she just looks as if she is a bulldog chewing a wasp
