Too Many Gold Medal Winners.

I heard a rumour that because there are so many gold medal winners at the Olympics, that it may not be possible for them all to be honoured in the New Year's Honours List... Ahhhh! what a shame.

Who will they choose then?

Rugby and baseball used to be Olympic sports. I am not sure why they were withdrawn. In the case of baseball perhaps not enough countries? Rugby 7's will be there in 2016.

Men's football should be withdrawn as it is not played in the Olympic spirit.

"only mainly rich people that can afford the aforementioned sports"

Those struggling to make ends meet in the South Wales valleys, and their mining grandfathers, will be surprised to learn that only the rich play rugby.

"Men's football should be withdrawn as it is not played in the Olympic spirit."???

What exactly is the Olympic spirit Woolwell?

The badminton players that were disqualified were a prime example of not playing in the Olympic spirit as was the Belarusian shot putter disqualified for failing a dope test or the boxing referee that was sent home for allowing a boxer to get up six times in the ring and declaring that boxer as a winner. Football didn't disgrace itself in anyway at London 2012.

If you mean that millionaire sportsmen shouldn't be included along with their sports, what would be left? Even all the Olympic track and field finalists get paid handsomely when they appear at the some to come post Olympic invitation meetings. Bolt stands to pocket over a million dollars if he can break the 19 second 200m record at one of these meetings.

The Olympic fortnight has become a bit of a financial Minotaur to dare to tame, but I can't see the rest of the world accepting a permanent home in Greece.

But possibly the answer is in concept of the five rings as in the five continents. Greece could be the permanent European venue, and the other four continents could agree mutually permanent venues that can justify the expense of that continent's running maintenance bill and be used for other events as well. Then we would just have a fixed rolling calender of the continents hosting the Olympics every 20 years.
