Just a quick note to ask that you don't post in the forum to tell everyone when you receive an email (and many of you will) telling you that on 27th August you'll be able to see Mars looking as large as the full moon.

It (the email) crops up every year around this time, and is of course a complete hoax.

It'll make a nice change from porn and meds offers!

  oldbeefer2 08:44 07 Aug 09 I never get spam. Not complaining though :-)

I received said email last year and duly waited up for nightfall, and I did see Mars looking as large the full moon.....there was just me and my friend Jack Daniels.

Good old JD - he can be so helpful at times.

. . . but it's made front page on the BBC website.

Don't get spam anyway. More narked by the incessant 0845 number that has been calling lately, although yesterdays call left a recorded message with a number to phone to stop them.

Quite interesting and comprehensive and probably dumbed down sufficiently for amateurs like myself.

Careful! Could be a premium number that costs 20quid as soon as connected.

My late father, who died in 1989, would have been 110 years old this 27th August. I wonder if he's closer to Mars than us! And yes, he was conscripted into the army during the first world war.
