This may seem a stupid question but what happens to the 'shots of celebration' which are fired into the air regularly in Libya these days? Surely they must fall somewhere?

The folks on Mythbusters looked into this, and apart from actually managing to find the falling bullets concluded that bullets fired straight up and falling to earth, actually were only at Terminal velocity when they reached the ground, and while they might be painful were unlikely to kill you.

Bullets fired at an angle however were may be still travelling at a speed likely to cause you damage when they came down.

And guess which stupid bunch of taxpayers are paying for all these rounds as their government pours in aid in the hope of getting some oil!

What is happening in Afghanistan these days? Has it finished there?

"bullets fired straight up and falling to earth, actually were only at Terminal velocity when they reached the ground, and while they might be painful were unlikely to kill you."

Around 32% of all people hit by a falling bullet die as a result. It's pretty obvious then that 68% don't. The deaths are attributable to the fact that a high number of falling bullet injuries occur to the head.

Just think about it as an hail storm or meteorite strike?.

how = who.

...and, it gives a new meaning to raising ones celebration glass and saying 'here's one in the eye!'. Didn't Harold say that as well when he though he was winning at one point?

I seem to recall how Saddam use to fire a shotgun over the heads of the gathering 'friendly and supportive' crowds. Now that was really living dangerously!.
