Recycling

My local council accepts all types of plastic wrapping for recycling, except bubble wrap.

But why not bubble wrap?

It is surely only air wrapped in plastic?

But the plastic is contaminated with the air in the pockets.

'Popped' bubblewrap is safe [no air], and is great fun if you feel like annoying anyone nearby whilst popping.

Probably a volume thing. You could always ask them why they reject it. Most Councils are on the internet.

  Quickbeam 10:48 11 Aug 13

Is the volume thing the volumetric mass of the product, or the audio volume of HB on a popping session?

Edinburgh council reject all sorts of plastic from straws to food trays. And the odd thing is that they collect plastic and cardboard on the same day and both are thrown into the back of the same lorry.

But I have long given up trying to understand my local councils actions. I emailed a question as to why they sent the gulley cleaning vehicles out on a Sunday morning when the roads have far more parked cars. As yet, some 6 months hence ,I still await a reply.

Thank you for your replies, which are somewhat less than helpful!

Any sensible suggestions, apart from the volume one, which I can't really see as the bubbles would burst at the first load compression.

Wrong type of plastic?

polyethylene Low density - bubble wrap

Polyethylene Terephthalate HDPT High density - hard plastic bottles

Polypropylene - plastic jars

Polyvinyl Chloride -- shampoos and cosmetic products bottles
