Prioritised list for Guide Dogs.

The guide dogs are short of money and skilled dogs .They therefore should prioritise where the dogs go to. How then do they justify putting a dog into a hostile environment where most people have read that fairy story at a very young age that dogs are “unclean” ? Our police and even soldiers are warned/advised about having dogs near these type of people yet they are top of the prioritise tree when the dogs are given out. Think of the problems when visiting friends/relatives/acquaintances and specialist shops who will mainly have been brainwashed by the same fairy story . Would you put your pet into the care of someone from such a group knowing their love of animals leaves a lot to be desired ?

Guide Dogs for the Blind, or whatever they are called, is the Charity with the greatest surplus of Income & Funds in the UK.

They are awash with money and have difficulty in spending all their income.

Why, I don't know!

Hmm, sorry but I don't understand these type of people, I certainly never had any such warning during my 21yrs in the Army - I have served virtually world-wide! So I am not sure what you are getting at.

Surely this is all left to the individual, whatever their religion or race?.

In my home town, we have had incidents of taxi driver's refusing to take guide dog's, and in every reported case the taxi driver as been dealt with both by the authority and the taxi firm if they were employed by one.

A couple of years ago, we also had newspaper reports about a young blind Muslim lad who received a guide dog. His community got together, and his local mosque even provided accommodation for the dog, while the lad was at prayer.

So it shows it can be done, if everyone pulls together, instead of thinking apart?.

From the Guide Dogs for the Blind Annual Report there overall funds increased by £2.4 million although resources expended exceeded income in their general running. Short of money? Maybe they don't have enough to do all that they want but not really short of money.

What sort of homes are you talking about? As far as I know the charity is fairly careful where it places dogs.

ITV documentary and the guide dog that spuds mentions is part of documentary and was in paper in 2008 guardian.co.uk/society/2008

I don't see any need to get het up. They are classed as Working Dogs. Guide Dogs and hosts are checked regularly wherever they are placed.

"A couple of years ago"

How times flies, it appears it was in September 2008, and not a couple of years ago. But its still very fresh in my mind?.

Thanks lotvic for reminding me of that event.

"How then do they justify putting a dog into a hostile environment where most people have read that fairy story at a very young age that dogs are “unclean”?"

Would you care to explain what you are talking about?

In any event, dogs are unclean.

Seems woody is trying to get through a bit of religious intolerance without being open about it.

But, actually, it is racial intolerance because, it seems, the notion that dogs are 'unclean' pre-dates Islam and is a long-standing part of Arab culture.

Cultural rules are often a way of dealing with health risks and, in places where rabies was endemic, discouraging close contact with dogs was a sensible way to reduce the risk of infection.

The Jewish prohibition on pork and shellfish has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with food poisoning.

"The Jewish prohibition on pork and shellfish has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with food poisoning"

I have visited Israel on many occasions, and on those occasions I have seen pig farms and eaten shellfish.
