Price of a Hospital Bed?

There's a spat going on between Labour and Conservatives concerning the cost of providing individual rooms at NHS hospitals.

George Osbourne claims to have costed a scheme for 45,000 rooms that would equate to £35,000 per bed.

But a written answer from Ann Keen, the junior health minister, published on Tuesday, said DoH officials estimated that the cost would be £211,401 per bed!

The £1 on the end of the DoH figure does lend it some precision, as if it's been costed to the last curtain hook!

But I wonder who's nearer the true cost with their figures?
