I am delighted that one of my heroes has at last been recognised. Mohammed Yunus has truly made a difference. This also redeems the Nobel Peace Prize, perhaps Tom Lehrer will sing again, that would be nice as well. Congratulations and heartfelt admiration to Mr Yunnus and the wonderful Grameen Bank.

Almost all of the Grameen Bank is owned by its borrowers, and most of them are women. Since it started the bank has loaned almost $6 billion tp people who are too poor to qualify for conventional bank loans. I believe that the repayment statistic is around 96%, which is one in the eye for those who said the scheme would never work, and that the borrowers would simply default on their repayments.

The world needs more people with the vision of Muhammad Yunus.
