A mother has been told she cannot take her severely epileptic child to school until she's been CRB checked.

Every day I'm amazed at the crazy world we live in...

Bloody disgusting

I think we could do without the colourful language.

On the issue, the Council should continue to pay for the Taxi until the CRB is completed.

"I would be in no contact with any children other than my own child." Mrs Jones

Therefore I presume that she is prevented from speaking to another child in the taxi by a forcefield?

A CRB check will only confirm she does/doesnt have any convictions, not reveal any possibilities of her being an axe-murderer.Only thing wrong with this story is her stating she hopes to have the CRB checks completed by September,it only took 1 week for the council to call me in to discuss the CRB check I had done for my Taxi Licence,I realise that now more & more people are needing CRB checks this might take a little longer.

As there is already the child, driver, escort and the mother in the taxi I assume there would be no room for another child?

It would be more sensible for the council to employ the child's mother as the escort?

"It would be more sensible for the council to employ the child's mother as the escort?"

This would of course require a CRB check as being employed to work with children does quite rightly require this.

I can't see a genuine reason why when, "I would be in no contact with any children other than my own child", should require a CRB. If there was another child in the taxi, it would still be a very weak argument as the driver would have been CRB checked. Could you then argue that parents shouldn't be allowd to attend school plays if they're not CRB checked?

"If you use any kind of anti-convulsant drugs, you have to be trained to use them, they can't be handed over willy-nilly to anybody.

If we can't get in the cab with him, then he's being put at risk."

It seems to me the council is taking a greater risk by allowing the above two quotes to increase the risk.

Unfortunately all the governing services seem to work to a script these days, this is a great boon to the employees of said services as there is then no requirement to think for theirselves and rock the boat. The motto is "Rules is Rules"

I thought that perhaps there were other children travelling to school in the same taxi as this little boy and that was the reason why the council were being so pig headed about it. But when I read the item all the way to the bottom of the page there is no mention of any other children sharing the taxi.

It is not so unusual for local government civil servants to be so jobs worth. It is something we come across much too often but where is this woman`s local counsellor or A.S. or even M.P. It is them who should take the matter up on behalf of the family. I hope that the local newspaper have shown these probably minor officials just how stupid they look.
