in my opinion.

If I want to register a .au domain name on behalf of my Australian clients I have to jump through hoops, one of which is to supply evidence that I am licensed to trade in Australia.

Anyone can register a .co.uk name, regardless of where they live or trade, and it's high time that Nominet stopped boasting about having 8 million names registered and started considering the possible implications for UK consumers.

A way of combating this is to check any site you feel wary of using something like Whois click here and/or look them up with a directory such as Freeindex click here or check them out at Companies House click here.
