Mercury in energy-saving light bulbs

and do they contain mercury, if you find a broken one where the glass lying around is it a health hazard.

Found one broken seems to have been smashed by something

All fluorescent tubes/bulbs contain mercury as far as I'm aware - it's needed to make them work click here.

As with the 'old' fluorescent tubes, if you break one be careful when clearing it up; the glass is sharp. As for the mercury, if you have amalgam fillings in your teeth it is likely your exposure there is greater than from the odd broken tube/bulb.
