What has Brian Rix got to do with it?

You don't see the farce in still clinging onto such deep rooted hatred and blame pointing for 30 years instead of just getting on with life? All it lacked was for Scargill to appear and drop his kex before the effigy.

Nothing stays the same forever, we have to move on. Hopefully this will act as a closure for some, but I doubt it. It is however an important piece of social history to balance the gratuitous and hysterical euphoria of the week before from the pro Maggie camp.

Both extremes have been equally as bad.

30 years? Bah! That's nothing. There's still people in Scotland looking for revenge for Edward I.

A triumph for the media journalists who encouraged these people to act in such a ridiculous fashion. A sad day for the people who allowed themselves to be manipulated like children for the cameras.

If only there were parallel universes you could ask two questions;

  2. Shall we go to the Thatcher party? There will be cameras.

Talk of people with long memories is a reminder that you will still find people who are sure that the troubles in Northern Ireland wouldn't have got out of hand if the press hadn't encouraged youngsters to provide good visuals in the early days.

The media have a lot to answer for but what is the alternative.

Perhaps, a better informed population willing to confront bad behaviour by the media.

You'll never stop people from playing up for the cameras but you have to hope that more of those seeing the images will ask how those scenes came to be.
