Lapland ...not the 'in thing'

This Christmas
as second one bires the dust....
A Lapland-style attraction which attracted concerns from the local county council has not opened.
Lapland West Midlands, which was due to open near Essington, Staffordshire, promised "an enchanting experience" with huskies, reindeer and an ice show.
A notice on the promoters' web site said it was not opening due to bad publicity and lack of ticket sales.
The county council had said it was extremely concerned about the event and that promises would go unmet.
A statement on Lapland West Midlands website said: "Due to bad publicity and lack of ticket sales, we regret that Lapland West Midlands will not be opening as planned on 6 December 2008 and the event has been cancelled."
All those who had bought tickets will get a refund, the statement said.
The website for the attraction says it is "nothing to do with Lapland New Forest" which closed down earlier in the week after some visitors' criticisms were featured in the media.

You have to admire their efforts to part us from our hard earned cash. It is the entrance fee that is the give away.

We have a wonderful display near us with free entrance in a Garden Centre. They dress the place up and it is a pleasure to visit. The kids visit Santa and the grown-ups have a Hot-Dog and shop in safety.

I think it was run by the same people as the New Forest one - what gave it away for me was a slogan on the website. "The attention to detail will truly wow you!" This exact phrase was used on the Lapland New Forest website.

AS I understand it the one down south at least was run by a convicted fraudster.

Homer Simpson comes to mind.

  GANDALF <|:-)> 16:55 06 Dec 08

'Violence flared with Santa being punched in the face and the elves getting roughed up'.
'Visitors who had paid up to £30 each for tickets to a “Christmas Wonderland” in the New Forest were turned away yesterday by a woman shrieking: “Santa's dead.”'.

You cannot write better than this.

Anyone who had any doubts about Christmas losing its original feeling and becoming just a consumer rip off should have them no longer.
