#just how do you tell them when.......

  jack 20:16 17 Aug 07

..........ou are not a customer.

This last week my Spam filter has trapped a Royal Bank of Scotland-' Let us up date your details 'scam daily.
Deleted it each time.
But this evening I thought perhaps they should know about it,
So I went to the Genuine site and the 'Contact us link'
Only to find that I have to fill in the form on assumption I am a customer.
As I am not, I am not going to fill in even a genuine form
So I deleted the Spam once more.
How do you get through these highly automated systems to a people?

All of the banks do know about these sort of phishing e-mails.

It's pretty pointless reporting it to the banks because the e-mails don't originate from them.

However, you can report them here click here

I only pass back attempts purporting to come from my own bank or building society, on the grounds that the others, and I get plenty of them too, are not particularly interested in people who are not their customers, and who are therefore not at risk.

I got similar, do not bank with them but called them and got an address.

Below is a copy of their reply

Thank you for your email.

I can confirm the e-mail you are referring to is a bogus e-mail, the e-mail
linked to a bogus RBS branded website. The Royal Bank of Scotland Group is
aware that these messages are in circulation. They did not originate from
within the Group, and have been reported to the relevant authorities as a
result the site will be closed.

I advise you not to reply to the sender of the message and thank you for
providing us with this information. If you receive any further emails
pertaining to be from the Group, asking you to verify or disclose your login
credentials, if you could please forward them to [email protected]
for investigation.

If you entered any security information in to the bogus site I would urge
you to contact the helpdesk as soon as possible so we can take the
appropriate action.

The Helpdesk number for OnLine Banking is 0845 600 8212 (UK calls charged at
local rates), if you are calling from overseas please use the following
number + 44 131 317 4597.

Our Helpdesk is open daily 7 days a week and our specially trained staff
will be happy to help you.

If you have received multiple e-mails that look the same we would appreciate
forwarded copies of all of them, although they may look the same the links
may be subtly different and we would like to make sure we are aware of all
of these.

Hope this helps
