'Jailbroken' iPods

  WhiteTruckMan 14:48 31 Dec 10

I'm currently having a look at some ipod touches on ebay and a number of them are advertised as jailbroken, ie cracked so they can use all sorts of apps etc. Never had one before but I understand they can be done by visiting a web page.

Does anyone know if this decreases their value (in theory) and is the process reversible?

(I'd though about posting this in helproom but decided here instead as it's not a pc problem)

is legal in this country (and many others), and yes, it can be reversed.

It's simply a way to get root access to the command line, it doesn't harm the device in any way.

I also thought Apple has the capability to identify jailbroken devices and turn them into ornaments!

Can you imagine if Microsoft had tried to push such limitations onto us with early windows products? We'd all be using Linux and Bill Gates could be penniless. Well not half as flush anyway...
