It's that Old Chestnut again ... Welfare Benefits Cost Cutting Excercise.

Many hundreds of thousands of vulnerable sick/disabled people who have been moved from Incapacity Benefit to Employment Support Allowance (ESA) will have monetary support pulled-away-fron-under-their-feet after a 365 day period.

Has anybody any experience of this draconian measure?

It's been like that since 1 May 2012. One-year time limit on contributory Employment and Support Allowance. www.turn2us.org.uk/information

Thanks for that link, lotvic. It will perhaps help some people who are affected. At least the economy will get better.

I've found that site a great help in trying to sort out my niece's claim now she is 20 (learning difficulties) and family allowance and Tax credit has stopped. She is in College for 3 years and has escorted transport from Local Authority. GP has signed Note to say 'not able to do any work' but ESA say she has to attend for them to do assessment test for Work Capability. She is on reduced money until the assessment.

I'm hoping to be there (as well as her mum) when ESA do the assessment - just for the fun of it - I've been through the questionnaire with her and I'd love to see the reaction of whoever 'tests' her, especially if niece is having a bad day LOL

If ATOS are doing the assesmment you are legally entitled to require them to do an audible tecording, insist on this it prevents any changes to the form afterwards

Lazarus The 2nd, based on my own experience, I wouldn't trust them even as far as that.

  lotvic 11:16 27 Jan 14

Yes it is ATOS that are doing the assessment. Will do as Kevscar1 advises, didn't know about that so thanks.

Often in the news is my local ATOS assessment centre. They are located on a second floor office block with no access for disabled people, but apparently you can arrange home visits if you are really desperate?.

Not sure if this is exactly true, But I was told once that a client was advised that they could do a job as a checkout assistant, even though they were minus two legs and most of one arm. Apparently, it doesn't take to much to pass an item through a scanner while sitting down!.

Forgot to mention that there is a program/debate about benefits due to begin in early February on either channel 4 or 5.

I will be affected by these 'austerity measures' meted out by this government ... I will miss the money but have already downsized my personal expenditure, accordingly.

This man seems to agree with me.
