It's nuclear......

  eikonuj 14:32 17 Mar 11

pronounced new clear .... not nuculer as repeatedly heard on more and more radio stations(mostly local).
Does this bug anyone else or are my expectations too high?

And definitely not "Newkiller" which may be depressingly apt but remains wrong.

  eikonuj 15:20 17 Mar 11

pronounced 'for em' or is it 'for rem' I think my expectations were too high.

I was always told that local knowledge was one of the most important things, especially in name pronouncing ;o)

and George Bush and most other Americans!!

I can't help it, I curl up laughing whenever I hear an American saying 'vehicle' :)

Both nuclear and carcinogens wrongly pronounced on the same BBC *******shire local radio this morning.

Yes - the link man said 'newcular' and 'carsogens' almost in the same sentence.

It was never like this when BBC English was supposed to be exemplary, the standard by which others are judged.

As for the squelch button and the perceived need to fill every potential pause with some irrelevant ditty ..... I just have to cope with added complaints from a wife with tinnitus, to whom any background makes the main message difficult to decipher.
