Identification longshot/Talking Point Number 35

  Brumas 21:41 19 Oct 07

These are three postcards which appear to be part of a larger set showing some part of a manufacturing process. There is no publisher’s name on the standard POST CARD blank backs - the only clues are written in copying ink pencil.
Postcard number 1 has ‘cutting room’
Postcard number 2 has ‘the rotary earthenware barrels and drying room’
Postcard number 3 has ‘rolling’
The grubby, torn white paper envelope which contained them has practically fallen apart and yields no other clues.

"Cutting, Drying and Rolling" would indicate either (a) Fabric (cloth) production or
(b)cigarette manufacturing. I::-))
Perhaps the first in Lancashire and the second in Nottingham.

I failed my Detectives exams.

Not tobacco, my great Aunt worked in the Players factory in Nottingham and showed me several photos.

Looks like punching out metal sheet but why the drying and rolling?

  Bingalau 22:17 19 Oct 07

Why can't they be punching out wooden ski's? I imagine they would steam them and then roll them into shape. My imagination is going into overdrive.

I knew I could count on you for the correct answer, I'll make an exception in your case and award a prize - A return ticket on the Titanic ;o)

I think it must be something to do with sheet metal - but those strips look very narrow.

I hope you lot don't think I have been away cup'o'teaing it - I have been searching 'the pile' and, as luck would have it, have found a sleeper.There is definitely no more of the set lurking amongst the dust!!

Written on the back is Rotary Annealing Furnaces.
