This time it's over quotas for mackerel and would also include the Faroe Islands. Ho-hum, here we go again! TC. click here

this time we have no navy left to sort it out.

"this time we have no navy left to sort it out."

As I remember it the navy didn't "sort it out" we backed down over threats to close a Nato base

With the recent bank and volcano disasters, finance as got to come from somewhere. The sea sounds about right :O(

Just as I was getting to like Mackerel with chips.

Iceland are defending their interests - contrast that with the UK who rolled over and allowed many other EU countries access to our waters. The Icelanders have done well to preserve their fish stocks, I do not blame thm.

  morddwyd 20:07 24 Aug 10

It is not their interests.

These fish are being taken from international waters in a unilateral breach of agreed quotas.

Fish stocks are in such a poor state generally that you simply cannot have a free for all even in international waters.

Sorry, You are right - I wrongly thought these were Icelandic waters. An even worse problem are Danish trawlers that scour the sea bed for sand eels, the bottom of the food chain , andare a big problem too.

Danish trawlers that scour the sea bed for sand eels.

That is probably why Puffin numbers are falling in the Farne Islands

And they don't even eat them.

They are used for fertiliser and fuel!
