How good is your maths

Puzzled by the question no doubt but here is the reason. I was asked if I had a cable HDMI in this case but the same applies to any cable. I have HDMI cables but they are obviously not all the same. Here comes the maths bit if you have connectors, one small and one large, one male and one female how many cables would it require to satisfy any situation, combinations not allowed. Long time since I studied maths but there is an equation for this sort of thing, I make it 27. Now introduce a third option of medium size and now how many? Just a fun question but if someone could give me the formulae I would like it.
