Error on your pc scam

  ukpostcode 15:59 22 Jan 11

Company ringing up people and saying you have a error on your PC.
They then get you to do some self tests in front of your pc before getting you to turn off security settings and go to their website to fix errors.

They are from an Indian call centre and refuse to give you any of their details etc why they are ringing you and inform you your pc is in danger of crashing etc.

It's a scam to get you to log on to their site and download their "anti-virus/firewall" software!

Should be easy enough to spot then.

How is it pronounced? :)

A variation is "I'm from BT, do you have broadband?"

Well I have a BT landline and if you're from BT you'd know if I had broadband!
