An emotional day on Clydeside

The QE2 has came home to the Clyde today where she was built before going to her permanent berth in Dubai when she retires next year.

This is a very emotional day for many people and many memories have been brought back.

I remember seeing her at Greenock shortly after her launch in 1967.

I suppose it so emotional because of the loss of shipbuilding on the Clyde and the proud heritage it had is now gone.

The appearance of this beautiful ship has reminded many of us what we have lost and will never see again.

She was a great troop ship in 1982.

I'm not a lover of cruising, but I once spent a week aboard the QE2, and feel in love with the ship. I think it's an enormous shame that we no longer build such vessels here - especially since it was entirely our own fault that we lost much of the business.
