Hi guys

CAn anyone tell me what the difference between differential settlement and subsidence of a property is?

Differential settlement is when one or more parts of a structure settle (move downwards or sideways or both) at different rates and/ or to a different extent.

Subsidence is where the ground beneath a building moves in a downward direction, resulting in settlement of the building (or parts of it). Subsidence can have many causes - mine workings beneath buildings, or clay soil shrinkage being two common ones.
